			<title>May 30: Invitation to Reprocessing/GNEP Forum</title>
			<link>http://www.carolinapeace.org/content/view/1203/35/</link>
			<description>

You are invited to a very special public presentation on...

The Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP)

Recycling Nuclear Waste and What It Means to South Carolina

Where:

Green Quad Learning Center, 1216 Wheat St., Bldg D, USC, Columbia

When:

Friday, May 30, 7:30 p.m.

Why:

In the wake of the proposed nuclear renaissance is the unresolved issue of the enormous quantities of high- and low-level radioactive waste created by nuclear power plants. South Carolina is being considered as the site for the (GNEP) reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel, misnamed as recycling . What will this mean to our state? Will our highways be used as transportation routes for this dangerous waste? Is reprocessing, which produces a host of new radioactive waste steams, really recycling? What is the status of Yucca Mountain? Will it open? Will SC be the dumping ground for a new generation of nuclear waste?

<title> URGENT: Help Prevent the Execution of an Innocent Man</title>
			<link>http://www.carolinapeace.org/content/view/1189/93/</link>
<description>On Wednesday, April 16, 2008, the United States

Supreme Court ruled that lethal injection, which is the method of
execution used inmany states, including Georgia, is constitutional. The
State of Georgia is set to resume executions immediately. Troy Davis,
who is almost certainly innocent of the murder of which he was
convicted, could be executed at any time. Please help. Go to Amnesty International's action alert and send their letter to the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles. (http://takeaction.amnestyusa.org/siteapps/advocacy/index.aspx?c=jhKPIXPCIoE b=2590179 template=x.ascx action=10022)

			<title>Action Alert: PayDay Lending</title>
			<link>http://www.carolinapeace.org/content/view/1186/51/</link>
			<description>
From Dr. John Ruoff, SC Fair Share:

All House members need to hear from their constituents on reforming
payday lending. The message should be: Pass the Senate version of
payday lending reform. Break the cycle of debt and don't allow these
lenders to lend more than a borrower can reasonably pay back when the
loan comes due.

Special efforts are needed with subcommittee
members (Reps. Nikki Haley, Phil Owens, Joan Brady, Grady Brown, David
Mack and Bill Bowers) and members of the House Labor, Commerce and
Industry Committee
(http://www.scstatehouse.net/html-pages/housecommlst.html#lab).

Contact for all House members is at:
http://www.scstatehouse.net/html-pages/housebios.html.

Please let Brenda Kneece know what they tell you.

The Rev. Brenda Lynn Kneece

Executive Minister

<title>Tuesdays: Become an Environmental Lobbyist for a Day with the Conservation Voters of South Carolina</title>
			<link>http://www.carolinapeace.org/content/view/1104/2/</link>
			<description>Every Tuesday, 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Nickelodeon Theatre on Main St.

If you see yourself as more than a spectator in politics, this great introduction to lobbying can open the door to political action. Legislative goals for the 2008 session include investment in renewable energy and efficient technology, green building standards, fair annexation laws, funding land conservation, and protecting water quality.

Come on any Tuesday that fits your schedule, and we will guide you through the day's events so you can complement the work of the conservation lobbyists - observing the session, speaking to representatives and senators, attending hearings, and helping reinforce the community's message.

For more information on the Conservation Lobby Day, contact Debbie Parker (803-799-0716) or visit http://www.conservationvotersofsc.org (http://www.conservationvotersofsc.org) .

			<title>May 23-29: &quot;Chicago 10&quot;</title>
			<link>http://www.carolinapeace.org/content/view/1198/2/</link>
<description>Showtimes nightly at 6:00 8:15; (3:00 matinee Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday) at the Nickelodeon, corner of Main and Pendleton Sts.

As one of the seminal political events of the 1960s, the Chicago Seven trial seems to come from another era, but filmmaker Brett Morgan, in his third return to the Sundance Film Festival, has created a film that is much more than a look back...

The title is drawn from a quote by Jerry Rubin, who said, Anyone who calls us the Chicago Seven is a racist. Because you're discrediting Bobby Seale. You can call us the Chicago Eight, but really we're the Chicago Ten, because our two lawyers went down with us.
