Tell DOE that You Oppose Reprocessing and Storage of Nuclear Waste in Your CommunityThe U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) published a notice in the Federal Register on January 4, 2007 that it intends to prepare a Programatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP). GNEP is a massive program proposed by President Bush to restart reprocessing of nuclear waste in the United States, a polluting, dangerous, and expensive process. A PEIS is supposed to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of a broad federal plan or action that includes a number of phases or actions. Before preparing a PEIS, DOE is required to request comments from the public about what issues should be part of the analysis. For more information about GNEP and PEIS comments, see The deadline for comments is June 4, 2007. Comments can be submitted in writing to:
To email your comments to DOE now, see our Take Action Alert. For a printable postcard for submitting comments to DOE, click here. Cut the paper in half; fold and staple to send to DOE (requires a stamp). For more information, please contact Michele Boyd.
