Reports Say Biohazard Detected in DC During March PDF Print E-mail

A deadly bacteria listed among bioterrorism agents was detected in the US capital last month during a mass protest against the Iraq War

District of Columbia Health Director Doctor Gregg Pane told WTOP Radio late Saturday that biological agent monitors on the National Mall, an esplanade in downtown Washington, gave positive readings for a small amount of tularemia on September 24 and 25.

The sensors are operated by the Department of Homeland Security, but officials were not notified of the potential hazard until Friday, according to Pane.

Ten Thousand Villages -- including Columbia PDF Print E-mail

The long-anticipated Ten Thousand Villages store, sponsored by
Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas in Columbia, SC, will soon be
opening. Finishing touches are being put on the store during the next
two weeks.

The store is located in the Forest Park shopping center near the intersection of Forest Drive and Trenholm Road. Look for the Piggly Wiggly grocery store.

Ten Thousand Villages will open on Friday, October 14, but the Grand Opening will be Saturday, October 15. Watch details about specific times

Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF), the Student Association for Latin America (SALA), and the Latin American Studies Program (LASP) invite you to a conversation with Daysi Granados.

Daysi Granados is a teacher in the Center for Agrarian Education and Training (CEPA) and a community activist. She'll speak October 11at the USC Nursing Auditorium in Room 133 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

She will also speak at Columbia College from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Breed Leadership Center, Room 302, and at Shandon Presbyterian Church from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
