The public is invited to a 35 year celebration of Environmentalist, Inc. at the USC Green Quad (West Quad) on Sunday, December 30, at 3:00.  Ruth Thomas of Environmentalist, Inc.  will lead a discussion about the upcoming year.  Come and bring new ideas and creative approaches to public education about the environment and nuclear power and nuclear weapons production.  For more information contact Ruth Thomas, 803-782-3000.

The Conservation Voters of South Carolina and other SC environmental groups will stage a news event Thursday, Sept. 6, 10:30 AM (or 11 AM for teleconference. call) USC Green Quad (West Quad) Lounge, Columbia.The purpose of the news event is to discuss SC DHEC regulatory oversight and recent allegations related to failures of the agency to properly oversee the Barnwell facility.

How Can You Volunteer?

Digging and Soil Amending
Both gardens still need help from furious diggers unafraid of clayful and compacted soil. Donations of manure or other organic fertilizers would also be helpful.

Composting
If you would like to help support the community garden, but you do not
want to water the plants or pick vegetables, please consider picking up
vegetable scraps from Rosewood Market after lunch. This would require committing to a day to regularly taking proto-compost to one of the garden compost piles (covering with leaves each time).

Freedom's Watch video has launched a $15 million national ad campaign with the goal of convincing the American public that continuing the war in Iraq is the right thing to do. Wounded veterans and Gold Star families are featured in these ads, stating that if Congress were to end the war in Iraq, war Veterans' and Gold Star families' sacrifices will mean nothing.

Military Families Speak Out and Gold Star Families Speak Out members Celeste and Dante Zappala picked up a video camera and made the following one and one-half minute piece to counter the message of this ad campaign.
