Come to the CPRC Office (1337 Assembly St.) on Thursday, May 12th at 6:30pm to see the video of last year's "Memorial March for Peace", filmed, produced and edited by Vennie Deas-Moore. Then join in the planning for this year's march to commemorate the dead and to call for an end to the occupation of Iraq so that no more die. Please also take a little time to come by the office during the week and be part of writing the names of those Americans killed in Iraq on our scroll, to be unrolled during the march. You can also get involved in publicity for the march - tell everyone you know about it. We have fliers available at the CPRC office to give out during events and to hang up. For more information call Michael at 803-665-5683 or Tim at 803-446-2772. |

As
my military veteran colleague and I arranged our literature table near the
high school cafeteria with materials about alternatives to military service,
the armed police officers assigned to the school were our first customers.
They glanced at our brochures, gave us a look that said, "You people mean
well, but get real," and launched the D-word argument we've come to expect
wherever we go.

When Rick Jahnkow speaks at youth conferences and visits classrooms
with the San Diego-based Project on Youth and Non-Military
Opportunities (Project YANO), he asks for a show of hands from people
thinking about joining the military.
Over the past year, Jahnkow says, more and more young Latina women have been raising their hands. |
