The Navy wants to deploy a Low-Frequency Active (LFA) sonar system across a staggering 70 percent of the world's oceans.  LFA sonar can deafen, maim and kill whales.  Its effects are so far-reaching -- and so unknown -- it could threaten the survival of entire populations of marine mammals.  And the Bush Administration has given the public only 15 days to register our opposition.

AUGUST 26: Don't see SICKO...without us! The newly formed South Carolinians for Universal Health Care and the SC Progressive Network are hosting a special screening of Michael Moore's "SICKO" to promote public awareness of the need and practicality of universal health care. The 3 pm, Aug. 26 screening at the Nickelodeon Theatre, 937 Main St. in Columbia, and will be followed by a discussion on universal health care. Tickets are $10; proceeds go to the host organizations to promote universal health care. Tickets are limited. To make reservations, and pay by credit card, call the Network at 803-808-3384.
