Seeds of Peace This work group focuses on strengthening and building ties within and between communities by nurturing our physical and metaphorical common ground. A major project of this group is a community gardening initiative that brings people together to increase their access to healthy food, healthy practices, and to the resources they possess as a community.

Ms. Donzell, Ms. Bessie, and William (Wiley Street between Superior St. and Edisto Ave.) Since its beginnings as a seed of an idea, the Edisto Court garden has yielded corn, watermelons, sunflowers, collard greens, cabbages, and eggplants through the efforts of Sara Williams, Emily McCravy, Matthew Kip, and Bessie Watson, as well as the young Kings and Queens of the garden: Franzia, Shatia, William, Tre, Mooney, Javier, Shakia, and many more.

Approximately six neighborhood children won prizes for their produce in the 2006 SC State Fair.

Rosewood/Ben Arnold Community Garden PDF Print E-mail

2006workshop (1100 S. Holly Street) In June 2006 we began our second garden project at the Ben Arnold Center
through a partnership with the Rosewood Community Council and the Boys and Girls Club. During seven weekly summer workshops we learned about the growth cycle of plants, the process of composting, animal life in the garden, and more! The Rosewood/Ben Arnold Community Garden now has a flower bed next to the driveway and, waiting for vegetable planting, a rich bed behind the building. The vegetable bed is framed by young blueberry bushes on one side, and a pine forest on the other.
