In 2003 the president ordered an invasion of Iraq. He justified the invasion with lies about chemical and nuclear weapons that inspectors at the time had confirmed didn’t exist. Four and a half years later around 4000 Americans have died with over 30,000 American casualties, close to a million dead Iraqis and four million people displaced from their homes in Iraq. The invasion was a tactical and moral error of monumental proportion.

Now the president is talking about the threat posed by an Iranian nuclear weapons program which the International Atomic Energy Agency says does not exist at this time. Still, on the basis of a nuclear weapons program that might exist in the future, President Bush recently threatened World War III. The administration continually demonizes elected Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a man who does not control Iranian foreign policy, as a threat to world peace. He’s even been compared to Hitler.

Why should we believe Bush’s message about Iran, after what happened in Iraq? These new lies are eerily reminiscent of the lies that brought us into Iraq. There is no justification for attacking Iran, and the consequences of such an invasion would be catastrophic. It’s time to stop the lies and end the killing. Out of Iraq, Stay out of Iran, Bring the Our Troops Home Now! Join us  this Friday at 10:30am at the Woodhill Mall.
