Sponsored by The Green Quad Learning Center and Sustainable South, the Beehive Design Collective will present "Dismantling Monoculture", a multimedia presentation featuring large graphics art pieces. Often employing an insect symbology to illustrate the stories, the pieces explore such issues as biotechnology, corporate acquisition of native lands, ramifications of the "Drug War", and environmental degredation. When: Monday, November 19, 5:30 p.m. Where: Green Quad Learning Center at the University of South Carolina The presentation is interactive and lasts about two hours. The event is free and open to the public. To learn more, please visit www.beehivecollective.org Read on for directions to the Green Quad. For more information, please contact Sustainable South at 255-0834 or GQLC at 777-1994. The bees are a non-profit artist/activist collective centered in eastern Maine who create collaborative artwork that tells through pictures the complex stories of the critical issues of our time. Members of the collective travel widely especially in the global south to collect personal stories from those directly affected by the issues they portray, and exhaustively research every aspect to be included in each piece. The Green Quad Learning Center is located in downtown Columbia between Sumter and Main Sts and south of Wheat. If you're traveling down Sumter St away from the capital building (roughly south), cross Wheat St and look to the right for a series of three yellow/tan buildings. A walkway cuts between the last two buildings connecting Sumter and Main Sts. Along the walkway is the one story Green Quad Learning Center. Its entrance is surrounded by four palmetto trees.
