Location & Time: Piggly Wiggly, 3818 Devine St., Thursday, December 20, 3:00-4:00pm Mepkin Abbey, a Christian monastery in South Carolina, is running an egg factory farm, where monks cram birds into tiny wire "battery cages" that are so small that the animals can't even spread their wings. Their bones become weak and often break because the birds are unable to exercise them. They never see sunlight, breathe fresh air, or do anything else that is natural and important to them. [Monks are on record talking about starving hens into forced molting to produce more eggs.] PETA activists will be holding a demonstration in Columbia this Thursday to call on consumers to boycott eggs from Mepkin Abbey as well as to ask Mepkin Abbey to shut down its cruel egg factory farm... We need your help to call on consumers to boycott Mepkin eggs and to tell Mepkin Abbey that abusing innocent creatures violates Christian principles.
