The word "KARAMU" is Swahili meaning "CELEBRATION or FEAST". The parade committee would like to invite your organization to participate in the third annual statewide parade, honoring Black History.  The parade is planned for Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 10:30am, downtown Columbia.  Please take part in this historic event, the third to be held in Columbia, S.C., we believe the first in the state of S.C.   Yes, you read it correctly, the third to be held, so again, take pride and take part of this historical event.

Participates are asked to depict some one from Black History and represent that person(s) in the parade and distribute information to the audience as you process in the parade. Who you represent can be local or national. Our theme for the parade is "SPIRITUAL/GOSPEL & JAZZ MUSIC OUR HERITAGE". We are asking that you register your church or organization to participate or any group that sings or plays spirituals, gospel or jazz music to participate. Choirs will be stationary, placed on each corner of the parade. Our grand marshal is the honorable SENATOR KAY PATTERSON
