Stanley Rich, a recently retired professor of English at USC Aiken, will talk about his trip in May 2007 to Iran. The talk is timely following the March 11 resignation of Admiral William Fallon, head of U.S. Central Command, over his opposition to the administration's push for war with Iran. The presentation will include time for discussion of the tense and conflicted relationship between Iran and the USA. Sponsored by the Carolina Peace Resource Center. The trip, sponsored by the Fellowship of Reconciliation, the nation's oldest peace and nonviolence organization (1915), included sixteen people who served as "citizen diplomats" who travelled for two weeks in Iran. Since very few USA citizens are allowed to visit Iran, this delegation of Americans had a rare opportunity to see the diverse geography of Iran and to engage in informal conversations with ordinary Iranian citizens about their lives.
