Statehouse Protest on Virginia Tech Massacre Anniversary WED April 16th, 12:00pm Statehouse, Columbia (North side, corner of Main & Gervais) On Wednesday April 16th , the anniversary of the Virginia Tech massacre, there will be a "lie-in" at the Statehouse to remember the victims of the massacre and protest lax gun regulations. Thirty-two vigilers dressed in black will lie on the ground representing slain Virginia Tech students for 3 minutes, representing the average time it takes to buy a gun in the US. Since the Virginia Tech massacre, there have been repeated calls for tightening up lax gun regulations to prevent easy access to guns for criminals and the mentally unstable who are a danger to themselves and others. Such reforms could be enacted without placing an undue burden on responsible gun owners including hunters and those who own firearms for self-defense. Yet, state legislatures (especially SC!) and Congress have been slow to act. The Columbia Statehouse lie-in will be joined by lie-in protests in Charleston, SC, Rock Hill, SC, at the National Capitol and at Supreme Court and in more than 80 cities across the U.S. participating in the National Lie-In sponsored by Protest Easy Guns.com. For more information: www.protesteasyguns.com For a Brady Center report on SC gun laws: www.stategunlaws.org It you can attend the protest, arrive early 11:30 & wear black if possible.
