On Tuesday, April 15 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., working people will gather at the Assembly Street Post Office in Columbia, SC, to speak out against Senator McCain’s proposed new tax on health care benefits, which would take money out of the pockets of middle class families at a time when they are struggling just to hold on.

Contact: Donna Dewitt, 803-798-8300

“As taxpayers, we are insulted by Senator McCain’s claim that taxing our health benefits is a solution to the health care crisis in South Carolina, Donna Dewitt, President of the South Carolina AFL-CIO, said. “McCain’s plan would hurt the 2,147,773* employees who get health coverage on the job (*Kaiser State Health Facts, statehealthfacts.org) and do nothing to help the 696,879 who have no insurance at all. ” Local workers will demand Senator McCain change his position on taxing working families’ health care benefits and call on him to support proposals that would help working people who are struggling in the current economic crisis.
