![]() FINAL CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR OREGON PEACE POETRY AWARD In an effort to inspire expressions of visions of peace through the written word, Oregon PeaceWorks is sponsoring its first annual Oregon Peace Poetry Award, open to all U.S. residents age 18 or over. The January 15 contest deadline is rapidly approaching.The contest theme is based on Oregon PeaceWorks' vision: Peace is more than the absence of war. Peace embraces an active, nonviolent approach to problems, an understanding that all people have a right to share the resources of the earth and a commitment to fair play and a role for every person in the decisions that affect their lives. We are seeking entries that explore and reflect positive visions of peace, human rights and the human spirit. The contest theme is based on Oregon PeaceWorks' vision: Peace is more than the absence of war. The contest will be judged by a committee of noted regional poets appointed by Oregon PeaceWorks. One grand prize of $200 will be awarded, a prize of $75 for second place and $40 for third place.Honorable mentions will also be awarded. The PeaceWorker will publish the winning poems and provide the winner a one-year complimentary subscription. The award-winning poets will be invited to present their poems at the Oregon PeaceWorks benefit Mardi Gras festivities on February 12. Winners names will be posted during February 2005 on the Oregon PeaceWorks website, www.oregonpeaceworks.org. Honorable mentions will also be awarded. Winners names will be posted during February 2005 on the Oregon PeaceWorks website, www.oregonpeaceworks.org.Contest guidelines are as follows: 3 poems per person, 40 lines maximum length; entries must explore and illuminate and aspect of Oregon PeaceWorks' vision; original, unpublished poetry; poems must have a title; typed or legible xerox copies are permissible; manuscripts will not be returned; poet's identity must not appear on poems; a cover sheet with name, address, phone number and titles of submissions must be included; entry fee of $8 for 3 poems, checks only, payable to Oregon PeaceWorks, must accompany the entry.
