Tell Senators not to Give $82 Billion to Continue Quagmire in Iraq

On March 15th the United States House of Representatives voted to grant $82 billion of our tax dollars to continue the illegal occupation of Iraq. This vote included almost all of the House Republicans and most of the Democrats. All six South Carolina House members, including Democrats Spratt and Clyburn, voted for the $82 billion. Only 43 house members voted against.

It is crucial that congress uses its power of the purse strings. Without funding, the Bush administration cannot continue its war. Congresspeople can exercise power if they choose to do so. When there is a bi-partisan vote to fund the occupation, this means that there is a bi-partisan occupation. Thus, both major American political parties are complicit in the crimes of this administration against the people of Iraq and the betrayal and misuse of the men and women in the American Armed Forces.

Let's create a bi-partisan support for peace. Write, email and call Senators Lindsey Graham and Jim DeMint during their recess to let them know that they need to refuse the $82 billion for the occupation of Iraq.

If you need to find contact information on any Senator or Congressperson, it can always be found at www.congress.org

And contact your representative to let them know how you feel about their vote to approve the funding for the war. If you wish to talk to Clyburn in person, he will be in town for the next couple weeks, including an appearance this Thursday from 5 to 7pm at the USC Williams-Brice Stadium Letterman's Lounge, on Bluff Road, across from the Bojangles, for a town meeting on Social Security.
