But what was even more amazing than the lovely truck was the parade leader: Four athletic and highly educated rescue dogs pulled a tricycle all the way from Spring Street down to the City Market and back, giving first Sarah and then Carol a free ride. (Their trainer got a lot of brisk exercise for her troubles.) Speaking of amazing sights, Charleston's dustily radiant beauty queen, Jennifer, was literally breathtaking in her lizard green skin and daringly mismatched horrific dress. She rode in the back of a pickup truck decorated with a big "no plutonium" banner, and several cars followed, sporting anti- MOX flags. There were also a number of cyclists, for example CPRC's Michael Berg, who lead the chants and gave out fact sheets to amazed bystanders. Brian, also on a bicycle, was wearing a gas mask and a jumpsuit decorated with "nuclear winter" slogans and looked so scary that no motorists dared argue when he stopped traffic at intersections to let the parade pass. Photos should be up within a few days. The weather was perfect and the streets were crowded with tourists. The dogs must have set the tone; people definitely seemed to be sympathetic. There is more work and more fun coming up.
