![]() Scene from previous vigil in September The grim news is in: 2,000 American soldiers have now died in Iraq. Their caskets have been hidden from view, and the news of their deaths has been swept under the rug. But the men and women who died in recent days were no less brave or less honorable than those who died in the first days of the war. It's time for us to publicly honor them — and to ask, "How many more?" Carolina Peace Resource Center, Women in Black, and Military Families Speak Out will take part in two vigils. The first, at the State Capitol on Gervais St., across from Main St., will go from 5 to 6 p.m. Held every Wednesday since the war's inception, the Women in Black Vigil will mark the start of a somber day. The second vigil will be held at 6:30 across from the Dorn Veteran's Administration Hospital on Garner's Ferry Road. The vigil will be on the sidewalk near the Wachovia Bank building across the street from the hospital. Bring candles and respectful signs. Signs will be provided for those in need. Most importantly, bring yourselves and your friends to represent the majority of Americans who think the country should never have started the war.
