Amanda Martin, previous CPRC director, is leading a Witness for Peace delegation to Colombia from May 14-24, 2007. A 10 day trip, organized by Jerel Rosati, is focused on Free Trade- is it Free, is it Fair?

The free trade agreement between the US and Colombia was signed on Nov.22. However, it has not yet been debated or voted on by US Congress. That will happen probably sometime in Spring 2007. We want you to come on this delegation to hear directly from the Colombian people how the FTA will impact their lives- through privatization of public services, the majority of Colombians will be priced out of access to health care, drinking water, electricity, education, and even locally grown food products.

On the delegation, we will be in Bogota (capital of Colombia, population 9 million!) and also traveling to the countryside for several days to speak with Colombians of diverse backgrounds: displaced people, the Colombian military, community leaders, human rights defenders, trade policy experts, farmers, and the US embassy.

The flyer providing more information is here. Please consider this invitation, and send this along to people who would like to join her!

Jerel Rosati and Teresa Somrak are the delegation coordinators in the US. My role is here on the ground in Colombia. Hope to see you in May! Please contact them for more info: Jerel Rosati at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

p.s. If you are a college student you can get 3 hours of credit through your home institution or by taking an independent study through me @ the University of South Carolina. People with diverse backgrounds are welcome!

p.s. 2. As a first time WFP delegate in August 2006 to Colombia I can sincerely say that the experience was fascinating, eye-opening, and enjoyable, and well worth the cost.

p.s. 3. Eight delegates are officially signed up for the May trip. Optimal delegations consist of 12-16 delegates.
