Young Iraqi War Victim to Arrive in Greenville July 8th

(Greenville, SC, June 29th, 2007) Salee Alawi, an Iraqi child who lost both legs in a  November 2006 air strike, will arrive at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport on Sunday, July 8th. Salee will receive free medical care, including double prostheses, at Greenville Shriners  http://www.shrinershq.org/Hospitals/Greenville/> Hospital, which specializes in pediatric orthopedics.  Because of on-going violence and a deteriorating medical infrastructure, Salee and children like her can no longer be adequately treated in their own country. A local volunteer group, Upstate Coalition of Compassion <http://www.upstatecompassion.org/> , has raised funds and made other necessary arrangements for Salee to be treated in Greenville, where medical services are readily available.

Upstate Coalition of Compassion works in partnership with No More Victims, a California-based humanitarian organization that helps communities across the country organize medical sponsorships for war-injured Iraqi children.  "I am only helping the people of South Carolina help Salee", says Maki Al-Nazzal, an Amman-based humanitarian worker with No More Victims. "It is their kindness that helps me here and gives us hope." Cole Miller, founder and director of No More Victims, will accompany Salee and her father, Hussein, on their trip to Greenville.  Mr. Miller will be available to speak to the press about the work of No More Victims and the plight of Iraqi children during his visit to the Upstate.
