An electric car from France using lithium batteries |

A French company has introduced a new electric automobile
called "The BlueCar" that uses a lithium battery and reaches 80
mph, gets 120 miles on a charge, and is fully charged in 6
hours.
Thanks to the batteries weighing 5 times less than lead-acid ones,
the car is surprisingly light (700kg, about 1550 pounds). This
helps in making the car able to have a range of more than 200 km
(120 miles). The battery technology allows the car to be fully
recharged in 6 hours, although with a few minutes there's enough
to get over a bad situation. The car is good for 125 km/h of
maximum speed (80 miles), just around the European speed limits
thanks to the 50 kW motor (equivalent to 65 HP). It seats 3 at the
front, optionally an additional pair at the back, although the
default combination is keeping the back for storage (up to 800
dm3).

See the new video, Global Warming Guy that was produced by the Coastal Conservation League. Global Warming Guy is a lighthearted look at the serious issue of global climate change. We hope that online viewership of this video will lead people to explore the information and links on the website, and, in turn, better-inform the debate on this issue, both here in South Carolina and beyond.
Where was it filmed?
The entire video was filmed at various locations in the Charleston, South Carolina area, including the College of Charleston gym, the old Navy base at Noisette, Southease Biodiesel in North Charleston, Fuel Express in Mt. Pleasant, and Wando High School.

FEDERAL COURT LIMITS SNOWMOBILE USE IN YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK |

A federal court last month struck down the Bush administration's plan to allow 540 snowmobiles per day in Yellowstone National Park. The court found that allowing such an increase in snowmobile use would result in significant noise and air pollution and traffic that would harm the park's wildlife, as studies by the Park Service had already determined. Instead of more snowmobiles, NRDC has urged the Park Service to expand the use of snowcoaches, which are less polluting and less noisy than conventional snowmobiles. This victory is a huge boon for the millions of visitors who go to Yellowstone every year for its clean air, abundant wildlife and tranquility. Biogems Home

In March 2006, the Department of Geophysical Sciences at the University
of Chicago released a study that compared the differences in
greenhouse-gas emissions caused by various plant- and meat-based diets.
Researchers found that the difference between a red-meat diet and a
vegan diet – in terms of greenhouse-gas emissions – equaled the difference between driving a sedan and driving a sport-utility vehicle. More summaries and full story links http://tokyoprogressive.org/jan2007.html
