The campaign against Occidental is strong in Arauca. Occidental extracts the oil in Arauca and sends it through the pipeline to the Caribbean coast, to the port of Covenas. The US government has provided $100 million US of taxpayers' money to provide protection for Oxy's oil profits. The money went to training of the Colombian military in how to protect the pipeline from the guerrilla, who have exploded the pipeline over 2,000 times.
