Common Ground: Rosewood Community Garden Demonstration 10/18/2008
Common Ground organized a large demonstration on gardening and composting basics 10/18/2008. The demo was led by Common Ground volunteers and Master Gardeners. Emphasizing the use of free/salvagable materials, it covered composting methods, sandy vs. clay soil amending and mulching to keep out grass, and how to construct and plant a raised bed, including growing vegetables during fall and winter. Following the three-part instruction, attendees were invited to get hands-on experience planting seedlings in the raised beds. The demonstration, proposed in our 2008 SCMMG grant application, featured raised beds constructed with funds from the SC Midlands Master Gardener Association. Attendees living near the garden were also invited to join as community growers. Handouts from the workshop are available at the garden or on the Carolina Peace Common Ground web page.
