ACTION ALERT: Tell the SC Statehouse to Get Real on Gun Safety!

The State newspaper's story "Will More Guns in More Places Make SC Safer?" (April 13th) should be a wake up call for South Carolinians.  While SC was recently ranked 6th in gun violence, the Statehouse is moving forward several bills to loosen gun regulations, goaded by vocal gun enthusiasts who believe as an article of faith that more guns is the answer.  Bills being considered in the Statehouse include an Open Carry bill (S 0115) that would allow gun-toting, open or concealed, without a permit, training or background check.  Another bill (S 308) would allow concealed weapons in establishments that serve alcohol.  This isn't about the Second Amendment's protection of the individual right to own a firearm, this is about utter disregard for public safety.  The Statehouse is considering these bills this week...

March 13th marked three years since American non-violent activist Tristan Anderson was severely injured when an Israeli fired tear gas cannister struck him in the head.  Unfortunately, this was no accident, but part of a pattern of by the IDF of irresponsibly using disproportionate and lethal force in dealing with non-violent demonstrations by firing tear gas AT protesters and at close range. Two Palestinian non-violent protesters have been killed in this way, Bassem Abu Rahman of Bil'in who was shot in the chest at close range and Mustafa Tamimi of Nabi Saleh who was shot in the face with a tear gas cannister at close range.

Senator Graham's Senate Resolution 65 "Greenlights" an Israeli attack on Iran, lays groundwork for US military intervention

Senator Lindsey Graham (SC-R) and Senator Menendez (NJ-D) introduced Senate Resolution 65, a "sense of Congress" resolution, just as the AIPAC conference was convening in Washington DC and it seems more like a "sense of AIPAC" resolution."  Senate Resolution 65 is a dangerous step toward war with Iran, "greenlighting" an Israeli preemptive attack on Iran and pledging US "diplomatic, military and economic" support for such an attack and building support for direct US military intervention.  The sponsors of this resolution hope to pass it before President Obama's March 20th visit to Israel... take action NOW!

TELL CONGRESS: Cut the Pentagon Budget

The report from the Congressional Supercommittee on balancing the budget is due before Thanksgiving!  While Defense budget cuts have been placed on the table, there is resistance in Congress to any cuts in the Pentagon budget, despite its doubling in the past ten years.  A $1 trillion cut in defense spending over ten years is needed to balance the budget. Tell Congress to get serious about defense budget cuts!  Especially if Rep. Jim Clyburn who is on the Supercommittte is your Representative.
