Each summer for the past three years Carolina Peace Common Ground has held a weekly workshop series for 3rd-5th graders at the Boys & Girls Club, Ben Arnold Unit. In 2008 we produced a Young Grower's Workshop Curriculum Guide that will be free for nonprofit use. Each workshop features observing, touching, tasting, and smelling the vegetables and herbs in the garden. The weekly workshops are interactive explorations of the Rosewood Community Garden and the interconnections it represents. Past topics include Life Cycle of a Plant; Pollinators; How to Make Dirt; and Nutricious/Delicious Local Food. Based on our experiences as group leaders and our evolving lessons during three summers of workshops, the Young Grower's Workshop Curriculum Guide includes detailed lesson plans that can be used as-is or adapted for other growing/learning contexts. The Guide was produced as a community resource and is available free of charge for nonprofits and other groups that wish to lead workshops in their own communities. It will soon be available for download as .pdf from this website. It may not be reproduced for sale or profit.
