ALTERNATIVE NEW YEAR SUN Dec 30th 2012-TUES Jan 1st 2013 Crooked River State Park St. Mary’s, GA A gathering of the peace community featuring a New Year’s Eve midnight vigil at the gates of King’s Bay Trident ballistic missile submarine base. The Trident missile and sub are budget-busting Cold War holdovers that should be retired. Join us as we call for nuclear disarmament, remember the year past, and recreate & reenergize to work for peace & nonviolence in the coming year! We have reserved 5 cottages at Crooked River State Park. Attendees are asked to pay a fair share toward the cottage rental. Accommodations: Each cottage is furnished either two or three bedrooms with two queen size beds each, linens, some towels, a living room, and a furnished kitchen with stove, refrigerator, and some utensils. Cost: The cost of a space at a cottage is approximately $20 per night, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on how many stay in a cottage. Please make arrangements to pay your cottage holder your share of the expenses.
What to Bring: · Clothing: Check the weather for Camden County, GA and bring clothes appropriate, particularly for Monday night's Vigil · Towel: An extra towel or two is a good idea · Food: We will have potluck dinners on Sunday and Monday evenings in Cottage #2 (O'Byrnes are bringing a turkey); Please bring a dish or two to share. There is a nearby grocery store. Breakfasts and Lunches are in your individual cottages and organized there. · Candleholder for Monday night Vigil: Cleaned out gallon or half gallon plastic milk or juice bottle works best. Simply cut off the very bottom of the plastic jug -- you'll have a handle to carry it by and plenty of protection from the wind for your candle. · Music, Art, Literature, Poetry: Musicians are very welcome -- bring your instruments! AGENDA: Directions: Crooked River State Park is located 7 miles north of St. Mary's, GA on Spur 40. 1. Take I-95, Exit 3 2. Take Georgia State Highway 40 toward St. Mary's 3. Turn left onto Kings Bay Road (This will take you to the intersection of Kings Bay Rd & Spur 40, where the Stimson Gate and our Monday night vigil will be) 4. Turn left onto Spur 40 (The entrance to Crooked River S.P. is impossible to miss down a couple of miles on the right side of the road) Arrival: Sunday, December 30th; Check in starts at 4 p.m. · Potluck evening meal from 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. in Cottage 2 · Introductions and sharing from 7:00 P.M. to 9:30 P.M.
