Senate Joint Resolution 41: Paving the Way for an Attack on Iran?

Late last Friday night, the Senate passed Senate Joint Resolution 41, a non-binding resolution calling for“U.S. policy to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapons capability” and rejecting “containment” as an approach to Iran’s nuclear program, sponsored by South Carolina Senator Senator Lindsey Graham, Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) and Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT). This resolution, seen as painting the US into the corner of military intervention in Iran if Iran does not comply with US demands, was passed in the Senate 90 to 1.  Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), the sole vote against the resolution, filibustered against it on the Senate floor, saying :

“I think a vote for this resolution is a vote for the concept of preemptive war.”

US-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act of 2012

  • Arms Israel with in-flight refueling tanker planes and buster bunker bombs needed to attack Iran.
