How on earth has this been allowed to happen?
During relicensing, the owners of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station in Lacey used faulty math to make it appear that the reactor's radiation barrier met minimum standards. When citizens tried to bring this critical error in computation to the attention of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, they were rebuffed at every turn.

BILLIONS
IN NUCLEAR POWER SUBSIDIES MAY BE ADDED TO OIL DRILLING/ENERGY BILLS WHEN
CONGRESS RETURNS
CONTACT
YOUR SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES NOW:
NO
MORE NUCLEAR SUBSIDIES!
When
Congressmembers return to Washington after Labor Day, we expect fast action in
both the Senate and House on new energy legislation. Exactly what that new
energy legislation will be is not clear at this point, but behind-the-scenes,
nuclear industry advocates are gearing up for a new push for billions of
dollars in new taxpayer subsidies for new reactor construction and other
industry wish list items.
It
is important to contact both of your senators, and your representative now, before they
return to Washington and things begin moving quickly. Most Congressmembers are
back in their home districts so it is worth contacting both their Washington
offices and local offices. It is also a good idea to meet them on the campaign
trail and bring up nuclear subsidies at campaign events.
The
Capitol Switchboard is 202-224-3121. You can also look up your House
member's direct contact information here: http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW_by_State.shtml#va
and your Senators' information here: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Union of Concerned Scientists nuke ad draws ire |

Alliance for Nuclear Accountability (we are a member organization) can use your help in highlighting an emerging news story about ads the Union of Concerned Scientists placed in the Minneapolis and Denver airports (sites of the upcoming political conventions) calling on the presidential candidates to reduce the nuclear threat.
Clear Channel, the agency that manages the ad space, has agreed to a request from Northwest Airlines to take down the Minneapolis ad because, the airlines claims, the ad is "anti-McCain." (The Minneapolis ad mentions McCain, the Denver one Obama.) We'd like to draw more attention to the issue, and you can help.
Go to the link below, register for the site and click on the "digg" button near the headline for this story.
Digg is a popular news aggregation site that can help spread our message. Clicking on the "digg" button will promote the story to the Web site's front page, where thousands of people will see it.
