![]() Join people of all beliefs, races, and nationalities in remembering ALL victims of nuclear weapons on Sunday, August 7. The Vigil will be held at Rutledge Chapel on the University of South Carolina Horseshoe in Columbia to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. Please join us as we gather to prayerfully remember the men, women, and children who died August 6 in Hiroshima and August 9 in Nagasaki and those who suffered a lingering death over time. We also hold in the light the leaders who made the decisions and gave the orders, those who delivered the bombs, and everyone evrywhere who has been damaged by the production and use of nuclear weapons. The Vigil is co-sponsored by the Columbia Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), the Carolina Peace Resource Center, and Women in Black -- in unity with members of all faiths and all peace and justice communities. We gather on August 7 to remind each other and the world to watch and take care, and to pray that another atomic bomb is never used by anyone. We hope our continued opposition to war will encourage people to work toward reconciliation and nonviolent response to all conflict. We urge everyone to be a continual presence for peace and to join us at 6 p.m. Sunday, August 7. All are invited to join Women in Black each Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m. on the Gervais St. side of the State Capitol Building. For further information, contact Rebecca or Harry Rogers at 803.252.2221.
