Thanks to all who made it a sucess!

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers and the Student/Farmworker Alliance stopped in Columbia on their return-trip from New York. The final event of the Fair Food Tour was at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship on Friday, December 12.

After a long drive from New York and a short rest, the team made a presentation on the conditions under which migrant farmworkers live and toil, as well as the tactics CIW and SFA have successfully used to pressure several major fast-food chains, including Subway, into dealing only with growers who agree to fair wages and working conditions for the men and women who produce our food.

I wish to thank Brigitte, Cruz, Gerardo, Mark and Meghan for their commitment to the cause of justice for all workers.

Thanks also to the Reverend Dr. Neal Jones and the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of Columbia for their gracious hospitality to these activists who, like Mary and Joseph in the Nativity myth, found what shelter they could in strange surroundings.

Finally, heartfelt thanks to Rosewood Market & Deli, 2803 Rosewood Drive, for a generous donation of fresh blueberry muffins, spinach-cheese biscuits, apples, oranges and tangerines to feed our guests and those who attended the presentation. Thank-you, Basil.
